2 years ago I took an amazing class from Sylvia Levenson at the Bullseye Resouce Center in Portland, Oregon. The other day I was perusing the listed classes and I noticed she was going to be teaching again. I dived in deeper to see more, maybe I could take a class. Well, although it wasn't a new course (although I would take it again but it's full) but I did notice 3 pics of work were being used to advertise the class.
Note: when you take a class at Bullseye they ask if you will sign a release form so that fact that they were being used is AOK.

Hello Everyone,
Hope you can join us for an installation show at LBCC in April. The reception is on April 12 from 4 to 5pm and thats when the led lights will be on. (Led lights??? come and see.) And yes for all of you that know Wadell, we are doing a show together. If you had told me this was possible 10 years ago, I would never have believed it. I am so honored to be in an art show with my Dad. (And Dan rocks as well.) Hope to see you there. Stay tuned for some more pics from the show. Its been 2 years since I participated in POST. The time has gone by so quickly, this is the 15th annual POST Art Tour and Sale. I am very excited to have been invited to be a guest at Susan Johnson's studio this year. She is stop # 13 on the POST map. So what is POST? Its a wonderful and diverse Art Tour and Sale, which this year will feature 32 local artists at 15 different studios and sites in town and on the back roads around Philomath, Oregon. Many of the Hosting studio artist's invite guests to join them. This year Heather Kier and I will be Susan's guests. POST will be 2 weekends in October. Saturday the 21 and Sunday the 22 and the following weekend on Saturday the 28 and Sunday the 29, All 4 days the studios will be open from noon to 5pm. Mostly this year it was about the fish but I will have some coral and some nice small dishes with bunnies, rocket ships, robots and radishes. Please stop by! I would love to see you. A few pics are below in the slideshow. Want more info? www.philomathopenstudios.com/ Need a map? Link here. CAW (Corvallis Art Walk) has become a major "Art Event" in the city of Corvallis, Oregon. Started just a year or so ago, people come from as far away as Portland and Eugene on a regular basis to enjoy the art. And what a variety of art it is! CAW, with its own Facebook page, webpage, and even its own mobil app, celebrated its 1 year anniversary in October of 2015.
Yes, indeed, Corvallis Art walk is the place to be on the third Thursday of every month. And again, this month of February, CAW is going to be great. I (yes me!!) will be one of 2 featured artists at Studio262 in downtown Corvallis. And although the show "Gifts from the Sea" will be up for a month, the reception is the night of CAW, February 18 starting at 4pm. Don't miss another CAW! There will be exciting events at studios, galleries and the Art Center. It promises to be an exciting and "artful" evening. And please come and see us at Studio262. See you there. Thanks. This is a reprint from the POST article published in the October 21, 2015 edition of the Corvallis Advocate. They said very nice things. In the 13th annual Philomath Open Studio Tour, local artists will open their studios for free, self-guided tours. Local wine tasting rooms will also open their doors and display artwork from several artists. During these tours, participants can learn about the processes of various artists. Some artists may even show work that has never been on public display before. There are 16 host artists, working in mediums from glass and ceramics to painting and fiber arts. There are also more that 20 visiting artists, whose mediums are just as varied. With all there is to see you would be wise to take more than one day to see the whole tour. Of course, the aforementioned wine tastings sweeten that proposition. Several “don’t miss” artists are featured in this tour—just a few of these include Katheryn Byram, Rinee Merritt, and Dale Donovan. Byram’s art is multilayered. Her pieces that resemble books feature multiple minute details that stop viewers as they stare and unpack what they’re seeing. Each intricate piece of her artwork calls to the viewer and makes them want to see more. Byram says on the tour website that she is “hungry to discover new ‘tools’ and media that will tell my story.” Her artwork reflects a sense of storytelling, since the longer you look, the more of a story you see. She also enjoys fiber arts. A visiting artist on this tour, she’s definitely one to see. Merritt’s work catches the attention with bright, vivid colors and creative shapes. Merritt is another of the visiting artists at this tour. A horticulturist and graphic designer, she uses those experiences to create stunning glass art featuring unique designs that look as though they were alive. According to the show website Merritt says she frequently uses “the light and color to direct my studies in texture, shape, and species.” Her work often features animals and nature, and the bright colors mixed with those found in nature lead your eye from one piece to the next. Functionality is just one word that describes Donovan’s work. His pieces are beautiful to look at, yet are useful in everyday life. He is one of the host artists on this year’s tour. His pottery jumps out at you, with bright colors combined with brilliant whites. It’s not just for show, however. Donovan likes the idea of creating something that can be used every day. He drinks coffee out of his own pottery. He was exposed to art first in high school, but got very interested when he went into the Air Force and was based in Topeka, Kansas. His studio is on his property, and he enjoys going down to it and being able to work at home, especially on rainy Oregon days. His pottery is striking and makes you want to put it on a shelf, yet at the same time use it every single day. A tour map is now available at the Corvallis Arts Center, the Benton County Historical Museum, or the Wine Vault in Philomath. You can also download it on the Philomath Open Studio website. There will be large yellow place cards that will lead visitors through all of the directions to the various studios. These tours allow visitors the unique opportunity of talking with artists in their own studios, see work that they have in progress, and ask them questions about their inspiration. It is a rare occasion to be able to meet an artist in the space where your favorite work was created. The Philomath Open Studio Tour takes place this year on Saturday, Oct. 24, Sunday, Oct. 25, Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1from 12 to 5 p.m. For info, visit www.philomathopenstudios.com. I am so excited. I just received 2 photos from the Coos Historical Museum in Coos County, Oregon showing me the hanging of the 3 fish they purchased earlier this year. The Museum folks have indicated that this may not be the final hanging as they may group them closer together and at different heights. That sounds fine to me. The original idea was to hang them against panels so that they cast large shadows (to make the most of the symbolism) but you know, I am greatly honored to have my fish in their museum, however they want to display them. What a great day.
POST is almost here. Whew. Getting ready for POST is a fair amount of work (but a lot of fun). I spent the day packing up the car with all kinds of glass goodies. I included some pics here so you can see some of the goodies that will be available. Prices will be great—and the glass will be too—from small sushi size dishes to large bowls and food safe platters. There will even be some bunny dishes. I will be at Tour Studio stop #5 which is at 24563 Daisy Drive. This year POST will feature 37 artists and 15 stops so there will be no lack of variety on this tour! Do you have your map yet? If not you can download one from this link to the POST web site or wait for the Thursday, Oct 22 issue of the Corvallis Advocate which will include a map and list of artists/mediums at the open studios. POST runs for 2 weekends. Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th and also Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1. Hours are from Noon to 5pm. I hope to see you there. It has been a hot and dry summer so far in the Willamette Valley. Those of you that live here know how uncharacteristic this weather has been. Yesterday it rained though and along with a sense of relief to see that yes, it can rain here again, I also realized I have a full and complete glass schedule and itinerary for the rest of the year (OK- lets not bet on that just yet) I have some new work and ideas and I hope that you will come see me and my work at the following places. I am very happy to again be part of the talented group of Philomath Open Studio Artists (POST). These are artists that get together for the POST Open Studio and Art Tour. This year we will have an early show at Pegasus Gallery in Corvallis in August. The show at Pegasus goes up the first part of August and will be up for the month so you can visit anytime to see the work of over 30 artists. If you haven't been, I would love to see on the Corvallis Art Walk (CAW) which will be August 20th. CAW is a fabulous event and is getting all kinds of attention, with visitors coming in as far away as Portland and Eugene.
I will also have new work on the Oregon Coast, at both the Fairweather House and Gallery in Seaside and Imogen Gallery in Astoria this summer. I am very excited and thrilled to have work on the Oregon Coast this summer. But wait theres more! In September I will be the featured "Cage" artist at the Azure Gallery in Corvallis. The Gallery is run by Deb, whose alter-ego by day is clothed in financial management outerwear but whose soul inhabits the art world. My work along with hers and a third artist (more here later) will be up all month in September. Please stop by and again, don't let another Corvallis Art Walk (CAW) go by without attending. We will be on the tour! CAW in September will be on September 17. Other Preview POST gallery shows will be at the Brownsville Art Museum in Brownsville, and Gathering Together Farm on Grange Road in Philomath during the month of September. There will also be a show of artists representative work at the Philomath Wine Vault, weekend afternoons from October 3rd through November 1. Heres a preview of some of the work I plan to have at POST this year. Bunny Plates will be happening! POST itself will be from Noon to 5 on the weekends of Saturday, October 24 and Sunday October, 25 as well as Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1. As a guest artist I am so pleased this year to be hosted at Cindy McNutt-Kaestner's (fiber artist) studio and will be on the tour as Stop # 5 at 24563 Daisy Drive in Philomath, Oregon. Get a downloadable map here. Mike Bergen and I will both be there both weekends. And finally but certainly not least, it looks like the long awaited grand opening of the remodelling of the Coos Historical Museum will be held during the last part of September. YAY! can hardly wait for this. Remember a while back I mentioned that 3 of my large Salmon has been purchased by a museum? This is that museum. As most construction projects go, it has run behind schedule and the opening has been held off until all of the exhibits were placed. If you can join me there, please do. I will post the date of the opening when I have it. In any case I hope to post photos. So yes, it is a wonderful upcoming glass year. My hands are full but sigh yes, I am always interested in hearing about something shiny. So please stay in touch and thank you for following my blog. I appreciate your interest and support. Please come and see me! It has been way too long since I posted anything on this blog. (And this will be a short post.) Graphic design work has kept me busy lately and glass has taken a back seat. Lucky for me, people ask me to participate and that helps get me motivated, because as usual, I am always trying to catch up on inventory! I was pleased to be asked to participate in a new garden art show on 25672 Gap Road in Brownsville, OR on June 27 from 10am to 4pm. There will be much original and exquisite art from local artists including glass! as well as light snacks and music. Please note that portions of the proceeds will go to benefit Calapooia Food Alliance, a worthy cause. |
